How $500 raised by West Boca Raton High School students brought hygiene, dignity, and hope to 80 lives in Kampala, Uganda.
Why Uganda
Children and women in Ugandan slum communities face hygiene challenges that affect their health, education, and dignity every single day.
Many families lack functional toilets, soap, or basic sanitation infrastructure.
Girls use banana leaves or unsafe materials during their periods, causing infections and school absences.
Lack of hygiene leads to absenteeism and social stigma, especially among girls.
Diarrhea and respiratory infections common yet largely preventable with basic hygiene supplies.
💛 $500 Raised & Distributed
Through our handmade jewelry fundraiser, we coordinated with In Need Home in Kampala to purchase and distribute essential hygiene supplies to 80 critically vulnerable individuals — including orphans, women living with HIV, elderly caregivers, and chronically ill children.
A Message of Thanks
The Executive Director of In Need Home wrote to our team on January 11, 2026:
“On behalf of In Need Home and the girls and families you have supported, I sincerely thank you for the $500 you raised in support of the health and dignity of vulnerable girls and young women. Your initiative, as students of West Boca Community High School, was both compassionate and highly relevant to the realities faced by people living in slum communities — especially girls.”
“The impact was immediate and deeply felt. Beneficiaries expressed visible relief and joy. One woman shared that she had gone several days without being able to wash due to a lack of soap. Many young girls told us they often go without brushing their teeth or using sanitary pads because their caregivers cannot afford these items. Your support restored dignity, comfort, and hope.”
“Your generosity demonstrates the powerful role young people can play in creating meaningful change. We would be truly honored to explore future partnerships with you and West Boca Community High School, should such an opportunity arise.”
